The establishment of electric refrigerated logistics continues to take place.

A new example comes from England where the Transport and Logistics department of James Hall & Co. Ltd delivered its first fully electric refrigerated trailer. It is the first in the company's fleet to have an electric rather than diesel refrigeration engine, thus eliminating diesel costs and the CO2 emissions of the trailer refrigeration unit.

The new trailer will transport products to SPAR stores in the North of England and has been given a special green livery to distinguish it from others in the fleet.
When at the SPAR Preston distribution center, the battery can be charged and the cargo space pre-cooled, and when off site, the battery provides a five-hour reserve to support the trailer cooler when not in motion and when out of mains power.

The investment in the new trailer is part of James Hall & Co. Ltd's rolling replacement program and the company's commitment to operate a greener fleet.

Ian Farnworth, Fleet Engineering Manager, James Hall & Co. Ltd, said: “We are very pleased to have received the new trailer, which looks fantastic in its special livery. It's a first for us as a company and the trailer is already delivering savings when it's around. We will monitor his performance with interest in the coming weeks and months."
He continued: “Although the reduction in diesel costs is an associated benefit, the decision to invest in the trailer was mainly made for the benefits it brings to the environment. We are also aware that an increasing number of cities and metropolitan areas within our area are implementing clean air zones, and we are mindful of these factors when we invest."
