Frigoblock, a leading manufacturer of transport refrigeration units in Europe and a brand of Thermo King®, has announced that its fully electric refrigeration technology is being used by Mercedes-Benz to refrigerate the first battery-powered eActros trucks, operating in Germany and the Netherlands as of now.
This project is the result of a close collaboration between Frigoblock and Daimler Trucks to offer customers sustainable refrigeration technology that can work perfectly with the new Mercedes-Benz eActros vehicles.
Using integrated inverter technology, Frigoblock electric refrigeration units are designed to work directly with battery-powered vehicles, minimizing the number of energy-consuming components. This allows optimal use of the vehicle battery capacity and helps maximize the truck's range.
To meet the electrical requirements of the new eActros, Frigoblock has designed a new Gateway CAN Bus system for direct communication between the truck and the cooling system. The smart control system efficiently manages the energy needs of the unit using only the minimum energy necessary to maintain the temperature of the reference point. The new CAN Gateway system also guarantees additional electrical safety, by automatically shutting down the refrigeration unit in the event of an electrical failure.
