Who owns the oldest BITZER reciprocating or screw compressor still in operation?

BITZER is launching a competition to find out and until March 15, 2021 it is looking for its oldest compressors still on the market. Participants have the chance to win great prizes.

Since the company was founded over 85 years ago, BITZER has been a pioneer in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector in terms of quality and durability. The company has now launched a social media campaign to find BITZER's oldest reciprocating or screw compressors that are still in operation.

Participants who identify older compressors can win fantastic prizes in both categories of compressor technologies: each prize includes a webinar of winner's choice from the SCHAUFLER Academy, a Jabra wireless headset and a BITZER office package.

How to participate? Customers who have BITZER reciprocating or screw compressors in operation should send the following photos and information to socialmedia@bitzer.de:

  • Image of the compressor, its nameplate and the compressor installed in the system
  • Info on model and system location
  • Name of the system operator
  • Personal contact details

The full terms and conditions of participation can be found in the BITZER COMPACT magazine: In search of the oldest BITZER compressors - COMPACT (bitzer-compact.de).

BITZER has been talked about in the sector since the 1930s when the company produced thermostatic expansion valves in steel. BITZER achieved its first international success with reciprocating compressors with a DC voltage design which then proved their performance in Argentina in the same decade.

In the 1940s, BITZER began working as a compressor manufacturer producing its open two cylinder reciprocating compressors and set further milestones in the 1950s with hermetic and semi-hermetic compressors.

When the senator h. c. Peter Schaufler took over the management of BITZER in 1979, the company entered the international scene and opened up new markets: in the early 1980s, BITZER became the first manufacturer to market open and semi-hermetic screw compressors for commercial use refrigeration and air conditioning applications that were mass produced.
