Phase-Down in the Recovery of Refrigerant Gases: Does It Still Make Sense? Who Decides if the Results are Adequate? - Part 2
What is important to clarify, after what we’ve addressed in the previous article, is that every gas, if recycled, can not end up in equipment similar to those from which it was extracted.
It should be remembered, however, that each portion of gas reused will be a gas that must not be disposed. However, the modern disposal process is likely to have evolved enough to reduce the motivations on why to recycle and not to dispose, mainly for cost reasons, more than for environment reasons. Therefore, what we want to emphasize, is the myopia with which this Freon regeneration is often considered.
Finally, regardless of the reason for which you choose to recover a used gas, it should be considered that this must first be filtered and distilled to be brought back in new conditions. Then... who decides when a gas is still adequate? In this case two tests are prescribed according to the same EN378 norm: acid test and moisture test, which we will address next week.
